Pakistan Zindabad

I was going through Karachi Metblogs entires today and I stumbled upon one that seemed quite interesting.

You can read it here: http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/2006/06/volunteers_need_2.phtml

When I read this post and my first response was "Wow! How refreshing! What a great chance for some youngs kids to meet with working professionals from across the border. It'll be interesting to see how the 'stars' will fare with unexperienced guides/escorts: they'll definitely get a fresh perspective on things. Not just on the city nd what too see here, but they'll also take back good memories of Karachi."

And then I read the comments people have pasted here and I have no regrets in saying that the decision I made when I decided never to return to Pakistan was well-made: the country is full of self-righteous people who will see the negative in everything except their own selves.

Being the way I am, I left a tirade in the comments section, but:

a) the post is quite old and I doubt anyone will come back to read the comments
b) venting archivally (is that a word?) didn't do it for me, so here's a repost, kind of edited into a whole blog entry.

When these people (the kind of people who poted comments in reply to that post on Karachi Metblogs) say it's the politicians that have dragged down this country, they are wrong. It's actually people like THEM that have.

People who might not do anything constructive themselves, but will shoot down anybody who attempts to do anything remotely constructive.

What's wrong with showing some guests around? Isn't that what the visiting stars will be: guests? Or will the prevailing opinion be different if these people weren't Indinas? Or movie stars? Or both?

What a sorry bunch of petty people most Paksitanis living in Pakistan (speically the ones who commented on that post) are. I mean REALLY.

It's a nation full of people who will never see beyond Pakistan Zindabad - no matter how corrupt its leaders are, no matter how filthy its streets are and no matter how the country just tales and takes without ever giving anything back. Yes my dears, the people maketh a nation and if the people sucketh, so doeth the nation.

It's a nation of people who love to hate Indians. Why? They don't know. Self-righteous, fucking, moronic, imbecile dimwits.

Somebody burn my green passport for me PLEASE.

It would be interesting to try to find out how much of a response the advert generated. Maybe young people wouldn't have been so opposed to the idea of fraternising with 'the enemy'.

Most poeple mistook it as a security guard duty which is should be paid.

When Karachi was burning nobody came to save it from extremeism and lawlessnes everyone is crying loud about discrimination against them. Now their leader is comfortably living in London and still these fools are following him. So this kind of attitude is only one example that how low can one go. No wonder everone left Karachi on its own.

Don't mistook me as Mohajir hater actually I am a product of Indian migrant parents. I went to karachi University and there Jammaati spray girls with bleach so all girls stay at home. MQM students bycots final exams to have their demands fullfilled. Well! they were elected at that time so why didn't they asked their questions over there. I saw how they wasted time in Assembly on petty issues. I colud go on but someone need to raise their voice against this atrocities.

I saw those two comments on Khi metblog in response of your comment so sharing them with all ...

@BAKPAKCHIK I am sure, no one has any problem with the visitors being indians, they have a problem with the visitors being from Bollywood.

If they were proper professionals who wanted some assisstance, I would be the first one there but people whose only talent is how well they can dance in front of the camera are not welcome (at least by us). And the farther our youth stays away from them the better.

Also someone who has decided never to come back to Pakistan has no right to be here and say anything about how Pakistanis deal with issues in their own country.

@bakpakchik: you know what has really brought down this country. The people who were too scared, lazy, selfish to stay in this country and fix the problems. Don't sit on distant shores and preach to us. It is very easy to sit in a different country and then trash your homeland. We live, breathe, work, cry, die, laugh, and survive in this country. So you and your escapist attitute can stay where it is.

I just felt very saddened by your post coz i love Pakistan and am in the UAE at the moment. If you go to my blog you will see my impressions on the UAE, which at the moment may be understandably emotionally biased perhaps but just because a few people were being stupid on a blogging site doesn't mean you trash the entire country on that basis.
Other than that, I do not know what Indian stars these were who were coming to Khi but first of all ALL the Indians who come to pakistan are treated like BIIIGG celebrities mostly and usually get great warmth and affection but sadly in th recent past an Indian ex filmstar Feroz Khan made some very sorry remarks (while he was completely drunk) at a dinner in Lahore. So, such ppl exist on either side of the border and i would advise you to take a more balanced approach to things. You just have to read 'Secret Dubai Diary' to find out the sorry state of affairs the UAE is in. I would also like to comemnt upon how utterly ridiculous and a complete waste of time most Bollywood movies are, but i will save that for another day, because perhaps that really isn't the point over here.

@ sabizak

Welcome to the UAE. I from your blog that you have been here just a few weeks. That certainly doesn't qualify you to pass reasonable judgement on the country.

Stay awhile and you will learn to see the bright side of Dubai too :) Trust me, once you see it, there's no turning back.

As for Secret Dubai Diary and the seriousness of issues discussed there ... I somehow feel the lack of availability of free-range eggs in Geant, or the over-tanned tourists hsopping in Spinneys do not qualify as matters to beh led against Dubai.

Secret Dubai is written by a Gora. Forgive me for sounding racist, but I mean, a Real Gora. In the "wow! look! that indian man speaks English!" kind of way.

I have been reading that blog for many many months and I feel it should be taken lightly. It's funny, yes, but it's not a social commentary with much credit to it. The writer is mostly poking fun at things. I do enjoy it immensely though .. I just don't take it very seriously.
